TO KEEP YOUR LABOUR MOVING ALONG SMOOTHLY WE NEED TO HAVE A STEADY FLOW OF OXYTOCIN.

SO HOW DO WE INCREASE OXYTOCIN NATURALLY DURING OUR LABOUR WITHOUT HAVING TO RESORT TO A SYNTHETIC OPTION SYNTOCINON?

These are my go to tips as a doula when I am supporting my clients during their birth

  1. loving touch and feeling supported and safe.  This is so important for your partner to know.
  2. a quiet environment – oxytocin will not be flowing freely if people are coming in and out of the room, if people are chatting about the football or if doctors and midwives are loudly chatting amongst themselves. There needs to be a quiet respectful environment
  3. soft music and low lighting. Oxytocin loves low lighting and it works under the influence of melatonin which will be increased with a darker room or a room with low lighting.
  4. privacy and feeling unobserved. It’s very difficult to have flowing oxytocin if you feel like you’re being observed.  Remember birth is not a spectator sport !!

These are things are essential knowledge for part of your birth preparation.
